Flame Metals Moving?

Flame Metals Processing Corporation located on the easternmost part of South Oak Hill is “consolidating” their operations in the expanding physical plant at their Rogers facility.

What does this mean for the South Oak Hill Neighborhood? First, if “consolidation” means that the company will be putting their property on the market, it means relief to the many families who have been burdened by the smoke and fumes for decades. Second, it means that we will likely get new neighbors. Currently, the land is zoned Industrial, which means that without rezoning of the land, we will have industry next door.

What is the solution if we don’t want industry next door? The solution is to have the land rezoned with the theory that rezoning of the property will give us a different type of neighbor. According to a zoning official at the City, Hennepin County would like to see the property zoned Residential. Maybe we would also…maybe not. What we need ot do is have a discussion regarding the property and decide what we want as a cohesive unit. You can voice your opinion at the Comprehensive Plan Meeting on May 5.
