Rezoning in South Oak Hill

28 Aug

I got this message from the City. The are working on re-zoning some of the property in our neighborhood. You can get the official word from the city by attending the open houses mentioned below, but here’s my general understanding:

  • These new re-zonings only apply to new uses of the space. Existing businesses would be grandfathered in.
  • The new Business Park re-zoning requires improvements such as what we have seen with Hardcoat Inc. moving into the Flame Metals building. The rezoning would also limit the kinds of businesses that go into the new spaces — and for what most I think would consider the better.

Please help spread the word — especially with those who do not have access to our website or you think might have an interest in this.

Below is the letter and here is a link to the map of properties to be re-zoned.

Dear South Oak Hill Neighborhood Leaders:

I am writing to let you know of an upcoming meeting to discuss the rezoning of several parcels in the South Oak Hill neighborhood.  These parcels were guided in the 2030 Comprehensive Plan for Business Park, and the City Council is now considering rezoning the parcels to conform to the Comprehensive Plan.  There are 57 properties across the city under consideration for rezoning.  An attached map depicts the properties’ location in the neighborhood.

The Business Park Zoning District is geared toward redevelopment of underutilized parcels for jobs-oriented types of uses.  However, the rezoning process would not disrupt any current business operations – existing businesses will be permitted to continue until such a time as major property changes occur.

There are two meetings currently scheduled, both to be held at City Hall in the first floor meeting room.

  • Tuesday, September 11, 2012, 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM
  • Wednesday, September 12, 2012, 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM

Both meetings will be in an open-house format, so there would be no need to arrive immediately at the beginning of the meeting.  City Staff will be available to discuss the new Business Park district and to answer any questions you may have.  If you aren’t able to make either meeting, but would still like to learn more about the Business Park district, please let me know and we can set something up separately at another time.

City Hall is located at 5005 Minnetonka Boulevard, just east of Highway 100.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the process or how it relates to the neighborhood.  We would also welcome others from the neighborhood, so please pass this email on to anyone who may be interested in the process.
