Southwest LRT Maintenance Facility — Opportunity to provide feedback

13 May

I was asked to share this information regarding the possible siting of the Southwest LRT maintenance facility nearby:

Open Houses Planned to Solicit Feedback on Proposed Operation Maintenance Facilities
Three public open houses will be held in mid-May to get feedback on a short list of potential locations for the Southwest LRT Project’s operations and maintenance facility. One of the proposed sites includes property in both St. Louis Park and Hopkins, along the border of the two cities.

The maintenance facility will house 180 permanent operator and maintenance jobs and is where light rail vehicles will be cleaned, stored and undergo light maintenance.

The same information about all of the potential candidates for the maintenance facility location will be presented at each of the three following meetings:

May 13 – 5 to 7:00 p.m. – Eden Prairie City Center, Heritage Rooms, 8080 Mitchell Rd., Eden Prairie. This open house is being held concurrently with Hennepin County’s Transitional Station Area Action Plan meeting at the same location. For details about the county meeting, see Hennepin County’s Southwest Transitway website.

May 15 – 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. – Southwest Project Office, Park Place West, 6465 Wayzata Blvd, Ste. 500, St. Louis Park.

May 22 – 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. – Hopkins Center for the Arts, Jaycees Studio Room, 1111 Mainstreet, Hopkins.

South Oak Hill 2013 Pizza Party – DATE CORRECTION

7 May

Time to reconnect with your fellow SOHers and eat some pizza. It’s the annual South Oak Hill spring pizza party.

We typically make these meetings pretty casual (so we can reconnect and meet any new neighbors). But we’ve also invited guests when there are hot topics or people want to come and speak with us.

This year, we have our new Councilmember Anne Mavity planning to attend. She can talk about Hwy 7/Louisiana and the Southwest LRT, and help with any other issues related to city government. You’ll also have a chance to meet the SWLRT project liaison for St. Louis Park, Sophia Ginis.

We all also talk about our summer ice cream social, fall BBQ and other ways to be connected this year.

Here are the details:

Date: Thursday, May 16

Time: 6 to 8 p.m.

Location: Park Tavern (3401 Louisiana) Party Room (near the main entrance)

Families welcome. We’ll provide pizza and soft drinks. Please RSVP so we can have accurate head count! If you plan to attend, register via the Facebook group or by emailing ccolincox(at)

Help spread the word. We’ll put up our signs this weekend, but they only direct people to our website. So, make sure you let your neighbors who aren’t on the ‘net know about the event.

See you there!
