Coming next Sunday: Annual BBQ and potluck

10 Sep

The Annual SOH BBQ & Potluck at Edgebrook Park are coming Sunday, Sept. 17th (a week from today) starting at 4pm.

Please bring a side, salad or dessert to share.

Kiddos, please bring a blanket along with some toys to sell or swap for our First Annual SOH Toy Sale. Set up anywhere in the park where other kids can find you and have fun!

We are still in need of gas grills — we need 2 volunteers to roll down their grills around 3:30 to the park.

Thank you so much for you interest, enthusiasm and help with our activities throughout the year! See you soon!

Annual meeting followup

16 May

Here’s what the folks who were at tonight’s meeting got. Thanks to all those who made it. Thanks to those there in spirit. Looking forward to another great year here in South Oak Hill.

By the way, we have a new contact in the police department, his name is Officer Bruce London. If you have questions or any issues, he’s a great person to start with. And, he is interested in hearing from you!

Annual meeting and pizza party

1 May

Join us at 5:30 on Tuesday, May 16 at Park Tavern for the South Oak Hill annual meeting and pizza party.

This year, we are going to try and keep it simple and have no featured speakers. We’ll provide a preview of this summer’s events, talk a little bit about plans to transition leadership and just hang out.

Pizza and soft drinks provided by the neighborhood association.

We’ll be in the party room just to the right of the main entrance to the building.

Look forward to seeing you there!

Today is the BBQ and potluck

18 Sep

A reminder that today is the annual South Oak Hill BBQ and potluck. This year, we’re having it in the park — Edgebrook Park.

Two requests when you come today:

1) Whatever you bring for the potluck, please be ready to explain what it is in it, label whether it’s gluten-free, etc., or label if it is has any ingredients people might be allergic to (e.g. nuts).

2) Bring some cash for the raffle.

See you there!!!

Annual BBQ and potluck

11 Sep

It’s time! Time for the annual BBQ and potluck. 4-6 p.m. this Sunday, September 18.

Meat and buns provided. You bring the sides and desserts. (And, drinks for your clan).

And, don’t forget the raffle. Some great prizes from Pizza Luce, Lunds and Byerly’s, Rodan and Fields and a ton more. (We’re sharing some information about the raffle prizes on Facebook all this week).

New location this year! We’ll be in the park — Edgebrook Park.

BTW, if you have raffle items you’d like to contribute. Let me know. I’ll connect you with our raffle coordinator.

Also, we need a few grills to have on site for grilling up the meats.

Two things

2 Jun

Two things that we are focusing on around South Oak Hill this year.

1. Adding in more healthy activities to our gatherings. One request from the city was to keep the momentum started by Health in the Park by incorporating healthy activities into neighborhood events. So, we’ll be making an effort around this idea this year. Some things may work, some may not. But we will try!

2. Continuing our legacy of supporting the local agency that helps so many folks in St. Louis Park, STEP. We have done this in numerous ways in the past, including donating our proceeds from our annual raffle and collecting back-to-school supplies at our ice cream social. This year, we’re incorporating some STEP-supporting stuff with our neighborhood happy hours.

Thanks for your continued support of our neighborhood association activities and contributions to building a stronger South Oak Hill neighborhood.

Annual meeting and pizza party

18 May

When: 6 p.m., Wednesday May 25, 2016

Where: Pizza Luce, Hopkins

Come connect with your neighbors. We’ll have free pizza and soft drinks provided by the neighborhood association.

We’ll have a speaker on hand to discuss development and zoning, as well as the city’s housing programs — things like the city’s remodeling program, what might be in store for the old Methodist parking lot, what’s the city’s teardown policy, etc.

An RSVP isn’t required, but sure helps as we do some planning and coordinating of how much food and drink to have on hand. Here’s a link to the posting on Nextdoor:¬† Or send me an email to

And, if you have some skills or other resources you can contribute to the neighborhood, this is a great opportunity to offer to share them ; )

We will put up signs as a reminder this weekend. Let your neighbors know about the event, too (especially those who may not be on the Facebook, Nextdoor, etc.).
