Annual meeting and pizza this Tuesday

14 May

Just a reminder that this Tuesday (May 16) is the South Oak Hill meeting at Park Tavern.

You’re welcome at anytime. We can gather there around 5:30, with first round of pizza around 6. And, if needed, a second round of pizza after that for any folks who need to juggle a few other things on Tuesday night.

No major presentations. Just some highlights of summer activities, volunteer opportunities and neighborly connecting!

Texas Avenue

25 Jul

One thing I learned about the city’s reconstruction of Texas Avenue (planned for 2017 and to the north of Highway 7) is that MnDOT is separately planning to reconstruct the Highway 7/Texas Avenue intersection in 2018. I have no additional details about the MnDOT project.

Information about the city project can be found here.

Two things

2 Jun

Two things that we are focusing on around South Oak Hill this year.

1. Adding in more healthy activities to our gatherings. One request from the city was to keep the momentum started by Health in the Park by incorporating healthy activities into neighborhood events. So, we’ll be making an effort around this idea this year. Some things may work, some may not. But we will try!

2. Continuing our legacy of supporting the local agency that helps so many folks in St. Louis Park, STEP. We have done this in numerous ways in the past, including donating our proceeds from our annual raffle and collecting back-to-school supplies at our ice cream social. This year, we’re incorporating some STEP-supporting stuff with our neighborhood happy hours.

Thanks for your continued support of our neighborhood association activities and contributions to building a stronger South Oak Hill neighborhood.

Annual meeting and pizza party

18 May

When: 6 p.m., Wednesday May 25, 2016

Where: Pizza Luce, Hopkins

Come connect with your neighbors. We’ll have free pizza and soft drinks provided by the neighborhood association.

We’ll have a speaker on hand to discuss development and zoning, as well as the city’s housing programs — things like the city’s remodeling program, what might be in store for the old Methodist parking lot, what’s the city’s teardown policy, etc.

An RSVP isn’t required, but sure helps as we do some planning and coordinating of how much food and drink to have on hand. Here’s a link to the posting on Nextdoor:¬†https://nextdoor.com/invite/xhpfvjepnsmwvrrzpssc. Or send me an email to ccolincox@mac.com.

And, if you have some skills or other resources you can contribute to the neighborhood, this is a great opportunity to offer to share them ; )

We will put up signs as a reminder this weekend. Let your neighbors know about the event, too (especially those who may not be on the Facebook, Nextdoor, etc.).

Police Department meeting with Oak Hill and South Oak Hill

This is a follow up to the survey that was taken last year. The meeting will be held on Thursday, March 24 at 6:30 p.m. at Aquila Elementary School.

Garage Sales this weekend?

10 Jun

I understand there are at least a couple of folks in South Oak Hill having garage sales this weekend:

– 3830 Woodland Dr, Saturday, 8-4. Lots of kids items.

– 7832 Cambridge, Saturday, 8-4. Multiple families. Lots of kids toys, household odds and ends, an endtable, shelves and more.

Post any other sales below and/or check out our Facebook page.

Happy Spring

27 Apr

Welcome to all of our new residents and springtime hello to everyone else.

We’re still waiting final word about our city grant for this year’s events. Nevertheless, I plan to schedule our spring pizza party for a Tuesday in May.

Other events possible for this year include:

– Movies in the park

– Summer Ice Cream Social

– Back to School Potluck BBQ

We’ll have more details on these events soon.

We’re also on Facebook, too:¬†https://www.facebook.com/groups/southoakhill/
